Supreme Court to Hear Case on Transgender Youth Medical Care

The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear an appeal from the Biden administration to block state bans on gender-affirming care for transgender minors.

This decision comes as many Republican-led states have passed laws restricting healthcare for transgender people. The case involves a Tennessee law that limits puberty blockers and hormone therapy for transgender minors. The federal appeals court allowed these laws in Tennessee and Kentucky to take effect, but the high court did not address a separate appeal from Kentucky.

Arguments will be heard in the fall. This case highlights ongoing legal battles over transgender rights, including similar restrictions in South Carolina and laws on transgender participation in sports and bathroom use.
